Sands of time

So over the past month or so I've started to panic just a little about my up coming school sem at AAU. AND not having the time I've had over the summer for friend's, family, and sewing. SEWING!!! OMG what am I going to do. I"ve been at the fabric store everyday buying, no hording all the fabric I can find. Addiction is not the word, so as I drag whoever I can to witness the marvelous fabrics at Happy Spot in Oakland Ca (on East 12th St. and 11th ave, "Hi, Simon) or heck I go more often then not by myslef and touch, smell, rub, stare at ALL the glorious colors. Then, when I've had enough of the store front I beg and drool to see what's in the back room storage area.. AAAHHH ( the Heaven's and Angel's sing) rolls and rolls of designer reamnets.... and let me tell you what kind of prices Happy Spot has???? The front store showroom fabrics are all......ready?  $2.00 a yd. YES!!! that's what I said $2.00 a yd. The back room is $4.00 to $6.00 a yd. can you believe this? Do you see? Do you see, why I have an addiction? Oh one problem, if you don't know how to tell what the fiber content of the fabric is you're kinda out of luck, because he doesn't know either SMH. I will tell you that it's worth researching the burn technique of distingushing fibers. It's been many a day that I've walked into a store and said to myself or whoever I'm with, "didn't I see this fabric at Happy Spot? lol
Okay, Okay, back to point I have so much fabric, and so little time sigh!
That still won't stop me from going to the fabric store on my lunch break hehehehe

Mom's dress

Last night while going through my patterns, I started wondering, why do the todays fit patterns still have alot of ease ( for my taste) I realized that what usually works best for me is to use the pattern that is one size bigger then what I wear in the store. For instance I wear an 8(store) so for the best fit I make a pattern 10 even if my measurements say for me to use as 12 or sometimes 14(pattern).. I'm still unclear why commercial patterns have sooooo much ease in them.. but for anyone who might try this, please make a sample in muslin first to test if you like a more fitted garment..
